about the book
What if you had past lives in which you could go back and live? And what if the same cute boy with blue eyes showed up in each of those past lives? Could you resist going back in time for such adventure?
For all of seventeen-year-old Alex Wayfare’s life, she has had visions of the past. They are so real that they leave her breathless. Sometimes she is aboard a ship bound for colonial America. Sometimes she is on the world’s first Ferris wheel at the Chicago World’s Fair.
These brushes with history come with a price, though. Wrenched from her life in the present with no warning, Alex returns with mysterious wounds and lasting effects she cannot explain. While time travel is cool, most of the time Alex just wants a normal life.
However, Alex is anything but normal. She is a Descender! That means she can travel back in time to her 56 past lives through Limbo, the realm between Life and the Afterlife. When she meets Porter, a stranger who knows more about her than she does, she learns how to Descend at will into her lives. It is exhilarating! There are so many historical secrets to explore and treasures to unearth—and there seems to be the love of her life in each of her lives to get to know.
Who wouldn’t want that power? Alex comes to love her abilities… maybe a bit too much. And when it becomes apparent that someone wants to make her 57th life her last, Alex will have to fight for her lives to get back to the present.
M.G. (which stands for Mandy Genese) had quite a few jobs before becoming an author, including service dog trainer; Pizza Hut waitress; exotic fish seller; factory worker; WalMart cashier; and tour guide at a tourist farm shoveling poo. Because of her prolific use of social media when it was first coming on the Internet scene, Ford Motor Company gave her a free car, a Fiesta, asking her to travel America in it and show off her adventures on YouTube! She has also appeared on ESPN twice in her lifetime, even though she is not an athlete—she interviewed a NASCAR driver once, and once because she was on staff for the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge!
Mandy spent twelve years professionally as a web developer and social media director, during which time she co-developed the popular social network site YABooksCentral.com! She stepped down from her role at YABC (like the acronym?) when she began writing books full time. Now her days are spent writing, and also wrangling her two-year-old son!
