For all her sixteen years, Nalia has always safely assumed that she was, indeed, Nalia, Princess of Thorvaldor.
She was wrong.
After her sixteenth birthday, the king and queen
reveal that Nalia is actually a peasant girl named Sinda who the king took at birth to be the stand-in for the real princess Nalia. There was a curse laid on the royal family: the princess would be killed on her sixteenth birthday.
