Pirates lived an exciting life! With no laws to abide by, their days were filled with exciting sea battles. The treasures they plundered allowed them to drink and party whenever they went ashore. Right?

WRONG! True pirates were never swashbuckling heroes.

Dangerous work was followed by boredom. Harsh rules and even harsher punishments, roaches, and bad food were all part of the life of a pirate. If somebody complained, he was marooned. And
pirates who were captured usually ended up on the gallows.

But this hard life was worthwhile because each pirate became rich with gold and other treasures. Right?

Wrong again! Each pirate received only a small share of the plunder, which was often quickly stolen away!
