Melody, a fifth-grader with cerebral palsy, cannot speak or walk but is incredibly intelligent. She is extremely frustrated not to be able to communicate. She describes her daily struggles, including taunts from the mean girls, bathroom problems, unattractive clothing, and the lack of respect from children and adults alike.

When Melody moves from a classroom for physically- and mentally- challenged students to a regular classroom, she is given a special
computer that speaks for her. Everyone quickly realizes how smart she is, and teachers give her a chance to participate in a national quiz bowl. But when circumstances cause Melody to miss the quiz team finals, her peers turn against her.

Can Melody’s determination and grit pull her through?
