Sam doesn't like the number eleven.
It's not that he considers it unlucky or that he has anything against odd numbers—it is just that eleven keeps appearing in his reoccurring bad dreams along with a boat, a castle, a storm, and a very mean woman.
And soon he will be eleven years old!
Grandpa Mack always hides Sam's birthday gift, and when Sam searches the attic, he finds a

newspaper clipping with his picture. One of the words says “missing.” Does this mean he was kidnapped? What is written on the old piece of paper? Sam does not read well. He'll need help to read the rest of the clipping, but who can he trust? His parents are dead. It is just Grandpa Mack.
