about the book

Nineteen-year-old Feyre hunts down a wolf in the forest. She makes her kill, but soon discovers the forest borders a faerie kingdom called Prythian.

A beast-like creature, angered by Feyre’s recent slay, captures Feyre and drags her to Prythian, a treacherous and magical land. The creature is Tamlin, an immortal faery seeking vengeance on humans who have been destroying the world he once ruled.

At first Feyre is angered about being captured, but as she spends time in Prythian, her perspective changes. She becomes angry about the lies she’d been told about the world of the Fae and is soon drawn to the mysteriously handsome Tamlin.

The faerie lands are suffering from an ancient shadow. As this evil gathers in on Prythian, Feyre finds herself aligned with her captor. If she doesn’t find a way to stop the wicked shadow looming over the faerie lands, Tamlin and his world will be doomed forever.

about the author

Born and raised in Manhattan, little Sarah J. Maas made her parents read The Paper Bag Princess a bajillion times to her. When she got older, she also fell in love with Garth Nix’s Sabriel and Robin McKinley’s The Hero and the Crown. She loved the exciting new fantasy worlds and the strong clever heroines. She became obsessed with fairy-tales and folklore, and she identified more with the one slaying the dragon than the damsel in distress.

Sarah was sixteen and didn’t even realize she wanted to be a writer when the character of Celaena “kinda just walked right” into Sarah’s head! In this twist to the Cinderella story, she knew right away that she had the idea for a whole series. Here was a “heroine who got to do all the fun things that boys usually get to do: kick butt, kill monsters, save the world.”

Sarah wasn’t sure she could even write a whole novel, and she didn’t know another soul who was into fantasy worlds, so she posted her initial chapters on FictionPress.com under the title “Queen of Glass.” Turns out a lot of people loved her tale, and before long Sarah had a massive online following. She loves interacting with her fans, talking and hearing their thoughts and seeing their artwork. The fans gave Sarah the confidence to pursue a career in writing.

Sarah graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Creative Writing degree from Hamilton College in 2008. In 2010, Bloomsbury bought the rights to Celeana Sardothien’s story and contracted Sarah to write six books in the series.

She currently lives with her husband in southern California and, when she not busy writing, she is “geeking out over things like Han Solo, gaudy nail polish, and ballet.”
