about the book

Scrubs is more than just a a little shocked when his taxi pulls up in front of the his grandmother’s Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast Inn. “Of all the places that his parents have dumped him for the summer, this is by far the dumpiest!”

The three story Victorian house is painted black and decorated with glittered comets, stars, and planets…and the first person who comes out the front door is a very weird tall dude who sniffs the mailbox! What kind of crazies stay here!

Grandma’s got an explanation. Each bedroom in the inn contains a portal, and she hosts extra- terrestrials who want to vacation on Earth. Scrub’s job is to “entertain” the alien guests and keep the townspeople from learning her secret.

How do you disguise something that is ten feet tall and has tentacles? The town’s people are already suspicious of grandma’s new age lifestyle, and the nosy sheriff would love to shut down the inn.

When alien antics cause cosmic chaos and mind-bending mayhem ensues, the town’s mounting prejudice and fear cause a mob reaction. It’s up to Scrubs to save the day…and the inn.

Clete Smith loves the woods. He was brought up in the Pacific Northwest in a place with few houses but great forests. He spent his childhood building forts and going dirt sledding.

But mostly, he let his imagination soar, making up wild crazy stories that only a twelve-year-old boy knew about…and they all took place in the woods. His Uncle Mike advised him to start writing the stories down, but Clete was just too busy playing.

Clete earned a teaching certificate and taught high school English, drama, and speech for over twelve years. He loved hanging with the kids, coaching baseball, directing school plays, and supervising the student government. He also wrote sports and feature articles for the local daily paper as well as some screenplays.

But then Clete thought about his Uncle Mike and decided it was time to take a year off and write his first book—about a twelve-year-old boy who is the only one who knows what really happens in the forest when aliens are on vacation.

Clete, his wife, and their two daughters still live near the forests in Bellingham, Washington. They share their house with a very hyperactive dog named Sugar—possibly an alien in disguise?
