about the book
Destitute and alone, Hatori Chise has been abandoned by her parents. Relatives have dumped her like garbage. She has never known love of any kind. Abused and neglected, the miserable and depressed fifteen-year-old is suicidal. Locked in chains, she is to be sold in a slave auction, but who could possibly want someone so damaged?
One man does…and he pays an astounding five million dollars for her! The man, a renowned Mage and a powerful demon-like sorcerer, is Elias Ainsworth. Tall and intelligent, refined and dignified, this inhuman being bears the head of a horned animal skull.
Elias has plans for Hatori. As his apprentice, he will train her to be a powerful witch, a very rare Sleigh Beggy, one who draws powers from magical beasts. But first he must offer her freedom.
Reader, this is no Beauty and the Beast make-over. This is a dark world, one that delves into British folklore woven into an intricate and complex tale. Just as the dark overwhelms, magical illuminating images add extraordinary twists. It is a strange universe where humans and non-humans co-exist with the ancient force of magic and fantastical modern-day technology. It is a place where Hatori never knows from one moment to the next what will help her…or kill her.
When the kind Elias refers to her as his family, she realizes she cannot choose freedom. She cannot go back to her old life. But what life has she chosen? Elias has one more bit if information to tell Hatori. He intends to marry her!
Elias seems human, but he is not. While his magic destroys, hers purifies. While she seeks salvation, he brings about obliteration. As time passes, the question looms. Who will be the stronger?
