about the book

When a four-inch blue alien crash-lands through his bedroom window, Zack McGee is sure he is going to be the first casualty in a new War of the Worlds. He is shocked—and relieved—when it turns out it may have to be a tickle war, if anything. The little alien’s weapons are only mildly threatening, more ticklish than terrifying. In fact, it is the alien who is terrified! Their military intelligence had no idea. Maybe instead of enemies, Zack and little Amp—so he names himself—could become friends?

As they become friends, Zack realizes that he will have to keep Amp a secret from the world. He keeps Amp in his pocket, but he can’t keep his alien secret from his best friend and neighbor, Olivia. And nor should he! Olivia and Amp know a lot more about science than Zack does, and Olivia is the first to attempt to help Amp get back home—she builds a bottle rocket, not strong enough to reach orbit, but the thought was nice.

Unfortunately, Amp is getting antsy to get back home. He begins causing trouble at school, disrupting science classes while searching for materials to repair his spacecraft. Will the authorities find out? What will they do to Amp? Can Zack and Olivia help?
