about the book
When they were kids, Emmy and next door neighbor boy Oliver had decided to be best friends forever, but Emmy had always thought that maybe they could be more than that, once they grew up. Then Oliver was kidnapped by his estranged father, taken Emmy knew not where. Shaken, Emmy’s parents became overprotective, relentlessly worrying that she will be kidnapped, too.
Can’t they give her space? Emmy is a teenager now, and still her parents treat her like a child. She just wants her own life, to be able to stay out late with her friends, surf whatever beach she wants, to live her own life.
Then, out of nowhere, Oliver returns, and he is almost nothing like what Emmy remembers.
Oliver, meanwhile, has to figure out the truth—he had grown up thinking his father was the good guy who rescued him from his mom. Now he has returned home, and his heart races when he sees Emmy again—but has he changed too much for her?
