about the book

Zach and Joey are best buddies and the top players of their baseball league. They are pretty sure they are shoo-ins for the All-Star Team, and they both dream of going on to play on the elite Center State Select Team. They’ll do anything to get to their goal.

But things get way too complicated. They are both in Mr. Katz’s sixth grade class; he is the toughest teacher in the school. While Joey works extra hard to pass, Zach is failing. Now he has to go on an extra-credit train trip to the Beaver River Biological Field Station—on the same day as the championship game. That means Zach will miss his chance to get on the All-Star Team!

Joey comes up with a plan, but it is really risky. On the night before the championship game, they sneak to Mr. Katz’s remote house and clamp off the fuel hose on his old beat-up pick-up. Mr.Katz doesn’t make it into town, and the field-trip is cancelled!

Everything should be fine now…except Joey’s mom, a sheriff’s deputy, has the uncanny ability to sniff out the truth, especially when it involves her own son. Racked with guilt, Joey flubs the championship game, and only Zach is picked for the All-Star Team.

Joey is devastated until one of the All Stars has to back out and Coach picks Joey to take his place. The boys are flabbergasted to learn there is only a single infielder position open! One of them will be out! Suddenly the best friends are rivals. If Zach’s participation in the vandalism is revealed, Joey will get the spot. Just how far will he go to play?

about the author

Tim Green worked very hard to achieve his childhood goals. He wanted to play on a NFL team AND become a best-selling author! He studied writing at Syracuse University where he was a Rossman Scholar for Humanities, a Syracuse Scholar, an NCAA Top Six Scholar, and a class co-valedictorian.

Tim was also on the Syracuse University football team and became an All-American player. He was drafted on the first round by the Atlanta Falcons where he was a linebacker and defensive end. During his eight years with the Falcons, Tim continued going to graduate school, was a Rhodes Scholarship finalist, graduated with honors from the College of Law at Syracuse—and wrote his first novel.

Tim wrote fifteen books for adults that were inspired by his football career and his work as a lawyer. He also penned a series of kids’ suspense novels that blend adolescent life and sports. He models his main characters after his own children.

Born in Liverpool, New York, Tim still makes his home in upstate New York with his wife, five kids, and two dogs. In his spare time he coaches high school football and kids’ leagues in soccer, wrestling, baseball, and football.
