about the book
For those readers who hated to see the last page of the Divergent series, here is a chance to learn more about the characters they grew to love and hate. In these four short prequel novellas, readers will get more details about secondary characters like Eric, Zeke, and Shauna, but the stories are written from the perspective of Four (Tobias Eaton). These tales illuminate the defining back-story moments in his life.
In The Transfer, Four discusses why he chose the Dauntless faction over the Abnegation faction he was raised in. He has no clue this life-changing decision will change his world forever. A scared and withdrawn sixteen-year-old boy, he describes his feelings toward the mother who disappeared from his life so long ago and his abusive tyrannical father, Marcus.
The Initiate takes the readers through Tobias’s initiation into Dauntless, his deep fear of the simulation serum, and his gradual transformation from an angry, manipulated, and vulnerable victim to a badass loner. It describes how he became an instructor and got his tattoos and the name Four. Though he is still angry and bitter, now he is also tough and determined.
The Son begins with an anonymous note indicating that the writer is close to Four and telling him where and when to meet. Four assumes the writer is his father, Marcus, but is astounded to discover it is his mother, Evelyn, whom he believed died nearly a decade before. When they meet, she confirms Four’s own troubled concerns that a foul plan is being hatched within the leadership of two of the four factions.
The Traitor runs parallel with the events of the Divergent novel. Four describes his first meeting with Tris Porter, his reaction to her, and the hard decisions about loyalty and love he is faced with after uncovering the plot by devious Jeanine Matthews to attack Abnegation.
Filled with the same twists, tension, action, and romance of the original series, this book also includes three new heart-pounding scenes for Divergent, told from Tobias’s point of view
