about the book
In 2030, Gnosis is the new Apple and Google. Lux is the new app that everyone relies upon. The app maximizes a person’s happiness with every decision, even if it’s just which type of coffee to order.
Rory Vaughn consults Lux every chance she gets, which leads her to the exclusive Theden Academy. But Rory suffers from the Doubt, an inner voice that marks a person as crazy. Once at Theden, something feels wrong and the Doubt grows stronger, so she begins to consult Lux less often.
Then Rory meets North, an anti-establishment, barista-hacker who doesn’t use Lux at all. As the two begin to uncover secrets about Lux, Rory wonders if her mother’s death sixteen years ago is connected to the conspiracy.
And if her mother was silenced, could she be the next target?
about the author
After about a year practicing law, Lauren Miller felt like doing something more creative. She found herself writing snippets of scenes on her Blackberry and pitching story ideas to co-workers. One idea became the script for a TV pilot, but it didn’t sell, so eventually she turned it into her first novel Parallel. She wrote Parallel while on maternity leave from her job at a law firm.
Lauren has continued to write TV scripts (some of which she has sold). Her second novel, Free to Fall, has been nominated for a 2015 “Best Fiction for Young Adults” award.
If she were a paranormal creature, she would be a shapeshifter.
Lauren grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended Yale as an undergrad and went to law school at Berkeley. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter.
