about the book

Karn, a clever twelve-year-old, doesn’t want to learn the family business of farming. He would much rather spend his days playing the strategy board game Thrones and Bones.

Thianna, a half-frost giantess, half-human girl, does not fit in with either side of her family, being too short for the one and too tall for the other.

Circumstances force these two together. Karn accidentally runs into and really irritates Helltoppr, an undead warrior who has a host of undead minions at his disposal. And Thianna has to flee her human mother’s people when they start searching for a powerful lost artifact and stir up a horde of wyvern-riding soldiers.

In spite of their differences, Karn and Thianna manage to become friends and work together to elude their pursuers. They rely on Karn’s sense of strategy and Thianna’s cunning as a warrior to travel into unknown territory, take on their enemies, and save both of their families.

Lou Anders has been a fan of fantasy adventure stories for as long as he can remember, but before he became an author he did a lot of other different things. He once was a Hollywood journalist and got to hang out on cool science fiction television show sets and hobnob with actors, directors, and crew. He also worked on a couple of movie scripts—even got paid for some—as well as writing and directing plays in Chicago. Lou has also won Hugo and Chelsey awards for his editing and art directing skills!

These days most of Lou’s time is spent on his Thrones & Bones series. When not writing, he loves playing video games, reading, watching TV, and traveling—he has been to Great Britain, Europe, and Asia. When not traveling, he lives in Alabama with his family and Blue, their pet fish.
