about the book
When Ren Sharpe was fourteen, she suffered through her first Pap Smear and the antics of popular middle schoolers (read NOT her!) playing at being adults. She thought life couldn’t suck any more.
She was wrong.
An organization called FATE kidnapped her, faked her death, and has been training her to be a human weapon for the past four years. Why? FATE can see the future. Based on what the satellite images show, every abductee is assigned a “future important person,” or FIP, to protect.
Now eighteen, it’s time for Ren to protect Gareth Young, a freshman at Texas A&M, who will someday change the world.
When Ren finds out both she and Gareth are just pawns in a larger conspiracy, they go on the run with Junie, a fellow abductee and the only person Ren trusts.
Why does her life suck so much? Will it ever improve?
about the author
Joe Shine always thought he would do “something creative in front of a camera and not a computer.” But while he was in grad school he was required to take a creative writing class. He’s been hooked ever since.
He also has a passion for soccer. Growing up he worked a number of soccer camps, one of which was during the 2002 World Cup. He played soccer all day and then watched the tournament all night. Over eight days, Joe got a total of 10 hours of sleep. Seriously. Needless to say, he was a bit delirious towards the end.
One of Joe’s “soul crushing defeats” is that the one time he let his hair grow long—to about an inch above his shoulder—he cut it. It was length he had patiently waited for, but the Texas summer ruined it!
Joe lives in Austin, Texas, working a “normal human job” and hoping to one day become a full-time writer.
