about the book

The Great Library of Alexandria never fell. In fact, it’s a very powerful governing force that controls all knowledge. And knowledge is more valuable than human life.

In short, possession of a book in its original form is illegal. The rules are enforced by deadly automatons and a trained army.

Even with all the rules and methods of enforcement from the Great Library, Jess Brightwell’s family works the thriving black market of books, smuggling original books to buyers. Jess lives in constant fear that he’ll be caught by the High Garda.

Then Jess is enrolled to train for a coveted position at the Library by his father. He’s to become the family spy or be put out on the streets. It’s an opportunity that he both loves and resents. One thing’s for sure, he’s not coming back.

Ink is in his bones.

Let the training begin.

teachingbooks-bookabout the author

Rachel Caine is one of Roxanne Longstreet Conrad’s pen names.

While growing up in El Paso, Texas, a Bookmobile visited Roxanne’s neighborhood every week. She read at least two-thirds of the five hundred stocked books, probably more.

Roxanne has been writing original fiction since she was fourteen, so it’s no surprise that she has over 45 books published. What is surprising is that she graduated from college with a degree in accounting and played professionally as a musician for several years after college. Eventually, she gave up music to write.

Roxanne has a special place in her heart for history, music, and science. As a result, those themes often show up in her books.
