about the book

Peter Quill, a.k.a. the legendary criminal Star-Lord, is the half human/half alien leader of the rag-tag team of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Star-Lord is also a big jerk with a rock star ego, a copious boozer, a clumsy rogue, and a hilarious dumb ass.

Seriously, this swindling superhero makes all sorts of stupid mistakes. To punish himself for his idiocy, he gives away every cent he has to the orphans…because he is really, really “sory”! Seriously! No wonder his long distance relationship with X-Men’s gorgeous Kitty Pryde is more off than on!

With the Guardians busy elsewhere, Peter is again getting in trouble all on his own. He snitches the powerful Mandalay gem from where he hid it in the orphanage, but not before the Badoons, evil reptilian bounty hunters, arrive to take him in. He escapes their prison with the help of a long-distance holographic communicator call to Kitty Pryde but doesn’t make it very far.

Turns out he has a half-sister, Victoria, who wants the Mandalay gem for her own planet, the Spartax Empire. Peter talks her into tricking the bounty hunters and stealing all their money. When the ruse works, he lets her keep all the cash, and then heads for a bar for a drink or two or three.

Tasered at the bar and taken in by another Badoon bounty hunter, Peter is thrown into a cell with a spy and a Badoon boy. If he can’t make amends with this bounty hunter who knows way too much about his past, he’ll be fed to a giant alien monster. Plus now he has to save the spy and the alien kid. Once again Kitty Pryde comes to the rescue.

At least he learned who was behind all the bounty hunters. The evil alien Mr. Knife is back on Earth. Peter also learns that Thanos, the all-powerful Titan who has caused much of the mayhem in Peter’s life, is also on the moon. He is in for a battle to end all battles. The question is: Does the Star-Lord have enough luck to get out of this sorry situation alive?

about the author

As a kid, Sam Humphries read a ton of superhero comics. In high school, he discovered manga. In college, he was into indie comics. In his twenties, he turned to Euro comics. But all these comic books don’t make him a great comic book writer. That he contributes to Mark Waid—Sam comes up with the great story lines and characters, and Mark rewrites all his scripts until they make sense and sound good!

Sam was born in Annapolis, Maryland on March 16, 1977, but grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He didn’t start out in the comic industry; instead, he worked in marketing for MySpace for several years. While he was working on a comic book portal there, his interest in the genre reawakened, and he began participating in podcasts and contributed to anthologies. After being turned down by several publishers, he self-published his first adult comic. It was well received and he became a voice in the industry. After his second self-published series, Marvel and Boom contacted him.

Sam started by writing for Batman and Detective Comics. He created a new Avengers comic series in 2013 called Avengers A.I. and also relaunched Uncanny X-Force for Marvel. His work for Boom includes Higher Earth and Fanboys vs Zombies. His Marvel video game, Contest Of Champions, is a smash hit. His Legendary Star-Lord series won rave reviews for its humor, and his newest work, Jonesy, about a teen girl who has the power to make anyone fall in love but who is no benevolent cupid, is already causing a stir.

When Sam isn’t writing, he’s busy with his camera. He is a photographer who is currently living in Los Angeles.
