about the author
Jude Watson has written many books under many names. Her real name is Judy Blundell. The first book she wrote with her actual name on the cover was What I Saw and How I Lied, and it won the National Book Award! Currently, she writes for middle-grade readers as Jude Watson, and young adults as Judy Blundell.
She was born in Brooklyn, but grew up in Queens. When she was six, she told her mom that there was a narrator in her head who described things as she was doing them. Because of this, her mom suggested that maybe she would be a writer one day. Since Judy viewed writers as holy people, she didn’t see how this was possible.
After majoring in English, Judy worked as a temp at Simon & Schuster. Seeing all kinds of submissions, she gained more confidence in her writing—she wasn’t as good as some of the submissions, but she was definitely better than others.
Judy has written several of the 39 Clues books and three Star Wars series.
Her favorite mythical beast is the phoenix. She eats oatmeal for breakfast. And her favorite sport is reading on the couch.
Judy currently lives in Stony Brook on Long Island with her husband and daughter.
