about the author
French author Hervé Tullet was born in Normandy and grew up in Paris. He discovered art around the age of sixteen and, after graduating college, became an art director for ten years. After he had his first child, he decided he wanted to be an illustrator. After he illustrated his first few books, he realized that working in a child’s world was the right career for him. He has stuck with the career for over 25 years.
Hervé is known for his unusual and innovative books. He enjoys giving school and public librarians new and interesting material to add to their collections. Hervé’s books are typically simple and interactive, especially his best-selling book, Press Here. “I try to create books that create dialogue between parents and children…My books are a kind of playground,” he says. Many of his books do not have words, which allows parents, teachers, and children to create their own way of reading the book.
In 2015, Hervé created a traveling exhibit exploring the art in many of his children’s’ books including Mix It Up! In addition, Hervé travels worldwide, working with children and helping them explore their creativity, which in turn helps him come up with new ideas for books.
Hervé splits his time between Paris and New York City.
