about the book
A group of power-hungry langur monkeys brutally massacre the rhesus monkey on the dusty streets of Kolkata.
Mico, a langur from a particularly privileged family, begins discovering the secrets of his troop’s leadership and is shocked at what he finds. The langur leader, Gospodar, becomes lost and is replaced by Tyrell, whose brutal leadership aims at conquering the whole city and exterminating all rhesus monkeys.
Now Mico must help the surviving rhesus monkeys. When he befriends a young female rhesus named Papina, his need to help becomes even stronger. But helping the rhesus goes against everything that has been ingrained in him.
Further violence causes Mico to realize that choosing between right and wrong isn’t easy, and he becomes unsure about what to do when he finds that his own life is on the line.
about the author
Screenwriter Richard Kurti’s favorite show as a kid was Thunderbirds, feeding his love for “big, bold, crazy, unusual, intriguing ideas explored in books, films and TV.” He says he’s been fascinated his entire life with what happens next.
Richard has worked on a large variety of projects: period thrillers, classic adaptations, low budget horror movies, and dialogue for big name characters (Robin Hood, Issac Newton, Captain Nemo, James I, Shere Khan, Sherlock Holmes, Alan Breck, Robinson Crusoe, and Sinbad).
Then Richard wondered what would happen if he applied all his screenwriting skills towards a novel—thus, Monkey Wars was written.
Richard began his career by studying Philosophy & English at King’s College, Cambridge. He then worked as a TV sound recordist for BBC. Soon, his career grew into freelance directing, followed by full-time screenwriting.
