about the book

Cassie Arroyo may have just spent her lunch hour daydreaming about skipping class and adding some spice to her life, but she’d already given up on the idea.

Suddenly, her dad is pulling her out of school, driving like a crazy, and talking like a mad man. “‘I’d planned on talking to you about this since you were little. It just never seemed like the right time. Gregorio was right….It starts with the Hastati.’”

Who is Gregorio? And Hastati? Is that even a word?

Then her dad’s shot.

While trying to figure out what is going on, Cassie discovers she’s from an ancient bloodline and only she can control the Spear of Destiny—a legendary object that can save, or destroy, the world.

Can Cassie find the Spear with the help of her friends before she’s killed by the Hastati?

teachingbooks-bookabout the author

While growing up in the Florida panhandle, Christina Diaz Gonzalez always read in her “tree house.” It may have just been a plank of wood in a dogwood tree, but it was her space. It’s also the place where she first dreamed of being a writer.

When she was fourteen, her family moved to Miami and she forgot about writing. Christina even went on to major in accounting and then law before finding her way back to telling stories.

As her two sons began to read, she realized that writing was her passion, not law. So with the support of her family (think My Big Fat Greek Wedding in Spanish), she has now written three novels.

Christina always tends to write in coffee shops while her kids are at school. In the beginning she always ordered hot chocolate, but she’s now graduated to coffee!

She lives in Florida with her husband and sons. She loves staying in touch with her Cuban roots!
