about the book

Bobby’s teacher is a monster. She’s a roaring, teeth-gnashing, galumphing giant green monster. And this was even before he threw that paper airplane.

On the weekends, Bobby goes to the park to play. But one day, his teacher is there! Neither is happy to see the other.

Will the student and teacher be able to overcome the awkwardness of seeing each other outside the classroom? And will they be able to realize that there’s more to the other than just a misbehaving student or grouchy teacher?

teachingbooks-logoabout the author/illustrator

Peter Brown grew up in Hopewell, New Jersey, which he says is a great place if you love poison ivy and mosquitoes. His father worked for NASA, designing cameras that went up in space. Astronomy and telescopes played a big part in Peter’s childhood. He also loved to draw and spent a lot of time sketching animals and running from them. Apparently, they didn’t care for him all that much!

Peter’s grandfather was not a professional artist, but he loved to paint, and he taught Peter that creating art was a good use of his time. Peter also had a great high school art teacher, “Doc” O’Boyle, who showed Peter that, with hard work, he could possibly become “a real-deal artist.”

At the Art Center College of Design, Peter studied drawing, painting, writing, and how to sign on for huge student loans. He decided making picture books would be a good way to pay off the loans, so he headed for New York City. He painted backgrounds for animated TV shows, but he finally got a book deal. He loves creating picture books because he can tell most of the story with his illustrations. He says he has a hard time thinking up the right words for the text part!

Peter lives his “artsy” life in Brooklyn, New York.

Mrs. Watson Wants Your Teeth by Alison McGhee
