about the book
Nicole Castro has everything. She is drop dead gorgeous, super popular, has a modeling career, comes from a rich family, and is very smart. And on top of all that, she is a super sweet girl. Like I said, she has it all…until someone sprays acid on half of her face!
Now the media is stalking her every move, and she is the target of all sorts of cruel remarks.
Just days after the attack, Nicole bumps into reclusive Jay Nazarro. He knows what it is like to be treated as a freak. With his history of seizures, he lives with being the resident outcast. Jay just can’t help but feel for Nicole.
He becomes determined to find out who is behind this heinous attack, and he has a secret skill that will help him. After an especially humiliating seizure, he was home-schooled for two years and developed into a brilliant hacker!
As they work through their own personal hurdles, the two learn to trust one another, find friendship …and perhaps, something even deeper. Through Jay’s biting commentaries, entries from Nicole’s diary, notes from her psychiatrist’s observations, and emails from the perpetrator, we slowly learn the true story.
And the answer has been staring Jay in the face all along! The closer he gets to Nicole, the more danger he is in!
about the author
Paul Griffin was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—where reading was for sissies and geeks. The only books that wouldn’t cause an ass-kicking were comics. So Paul read and began drawing his own—in secret. The only thing less cool than reading was drawing.
During his last year at Dartmouth, he wrote his first novel, a book that, with 22 others, went unpublished. While he wrote, he worked as a construction worker, EMT, dog trainer, butler, bartender, waiter, cook, dishwasher (he scrubbed pots with Vin Diesel before Vin became a famous movie star), and best job of all, a teacher. After 20 years, though he continued to write, he had basically given up on getting published and was out of work, once again.
Then he got a call from a guy who said that he could find a buyer for one of Paul’s manuscripts. Paul didn’t believe it-but on his 41st birthday, his book Ten Mile River was sold! Now he has a permanent job—as a full time writer! Just goes to show you, never give up!
Paul also works with incarcerated, at-risk, and special needs teens, teaching them how to tell their own stories to judges, counselors, college admission officers, and potential employers. Paul lives with his wife, documentary moviemaker Risa Morimoto, and three dogs in Washington Heights, a section of New York City.
