about the book
Across the globe, teenagers are being targeted by PEMA, a wasting disease that has proven incurable. Those that are left are guarded closely—like Noa. A ward of Child Protective Services, she has finally had enough.
Using her incredible hacking skills, Noa creates several fake identities for herself as well as a foster family the CPS can check up on. Noa makes money for herself working “from home,” doing private security testing for websites. She thinks she has it made.
Then she wakes up on the operating table in a place that appears to be a hospital. Knowing the doctors are lying when they tell her she was in a car accident, Noa decides she needs to escape.
Meanwhile, privileged-boy Peter is using his hacking skills to unite a group of like-minded teens into /ALLIANCE/. These “hacktivists” are working to track the conspiracy of a lifetime— what if PEMA is not an accident?
about the author
Michelle Gagnon has been many different things—dog walker, bartender, freelance journalist, modern dancer, personal trainer, model, and a performer at a Russian supper club in New York City.
The Russian supper club performer part usually needs explaining—there was nothing untoward about it at all. In fact, Michelle says the most fun she ever had dancing was performing for the Russian mobsters that attended that run-down warehouse converted into a supper hall!
One show involved a storyline where aliens landed on earth and learned about human culture by listening to disco and Michael Jackson numbers, which were the songs Michelle and the other dancers danced to. The gig only lasted three months—after that, the club owners hired real Russian girls to dance for cheap.
After the club cast her out, Michelle tried to continue to make a living in NYC, but knee injuries—mostly brought about by dancing at that club—brought her dancing days to an end. So, she moved out west to begin a new life— and became a crime fiction writer.
When Michelle is not writing her thriller books, she is running errands or indulging herself on Hollywood blockbuster movies and bad theater popcorn. She lives in both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
