Hooper Finds a Family : A Hurricane Katrina Dog’s Survival Tale

about the book

Hooper is a spunky, plucky, warm-spirited dog. He’s funny, endearing—and a survivor of Hurricane Katrina.

Hooper tells his story from his point of view. He is left homeless after the hurricane, drifting along like the debris. He is rescued and put in a shelter. After a while, Hooper is taken on a somewhat scary journey from New Orleans— the only home he has ever known—to New York to meet Jane Paley and his new family!

Now Hooper has to figure out how to behave as the new dog on the block, especially when there is a bully dog in the neighborhood. Also, from the hurricane and the flooding, it seems Hooper has developed a fear of water.

Can his new family help him fit in?

Just a Dog by Michael Gerard Bauer
Mr. Mosely, or Moe, as his family calls him, is not “just a dog.” He is half-Great Dane, all white except for a black patch under his eye and a heart-shaped patch on his chest. He is goofy, lovable, and seems to always know what his family needs even before they themselves know. This is the story of Moe’s life, and how his long decline and eventual death united his family.
