Little Mouse

about the book

Little Mouse just can’t quite understand why her mother calls her, well, Little Mouse!

All day long, this little redhead turns the simplest activities into all sorts of fun. She sees herself as tall as a giraffe, brave as a lion, strong as an ox, and hungry as a horse. She trumpets like an elephant, waddles like a penguin, howls like a wolf, and splashes like a whale. She chomps, stomps, and zooms about the house like all sorts of animals—but not like a little mouse!

Except at bedtime, when she’s all cuddly warm in her mousey pjs, snuggling on her mother’s lap in a big over-stuffed chair. Then she is happy to be her mother’s cozy, dozy quiet little mouse!

This book is full of all sorts of animal sounds to make, and there is a real little mouse on each page. Can you spot it?

And on the very last spread, all the animals are hidden. Can you find all of them?

about the author

Alison Murray grew up in Lanarkshire, near Glasgow, Scotland. She studied textile design at the Glasgow School of Art and then moved to London, where she had several jobs, including selling books and designing rugs.

She went back school at Middlesex University for a degree in interactive media. After graduating, she co-founded a successful company which provided products and services for computer systems, including web site design, graphics, animation, videos, and games. She eventually sold that business to a Fortune 500 corporation.

She moved back to Scotland with her family, and though she still dabbles in computer graphics and web design, she currently is a free-lance illustrator and author of children’s picture books.

From 2010-2011, she was the writer-in- residence for the Scottish Book Trust and Home Starts program. As a result of a collaborative writing project with one of the Home Start groups, Little Mouse was written and published. The book has been distributed to approximately 60,000 children in the Scottish Book Trust’s Bookbug bags.
