Not a Drop to Drink

about the book

Sixteen-year-old Lynn knows only the world of her small farm and the pond—the most precious thing in her world—on their property. It is a time of great distress. Useable water is the scarcest resource in the world, and Lynn knows it. She and her mother labor to protect the water from coyotes and human raiders.

No one finds the pond and leaves without getting hurt. Or else they do not leave at all. Lynn is a crack shot with a gun…

So when her mother is killed, Lynn’s world becomes that much smaller and more confusing—until two survivors, along with her neighbor, come to depend on her for water and protection. Lynn at first resists, remembering her mother’s hard-nosed teachings about independent living.

The survivors are Eli and five-year-old Lucy, plus her neighbor Stebbs. Together, they are about to teach Lynn about life in a way her mother never could—life as part of a family and a community.

about the author

Mindy McGinnis grew up in the woods in Ohio, learning how to can her own food and dreaming about developing the skills she might need to survive in the wild on her own. When the Internet happened, Mindy realized that she likes technology too much to ever try and live on her own in the woods. She still dreams, though.

Mindy loves writing and being a writer. It lets her stare off into space and legitimately (sometimes) claim that she is working!

Like Lynn in her first novel, Not a Drop to Drink, Mindy has a pond in her backyard. Unlike Lynn, Mindy has never shot anyone and has no skills with a gun at all.
