about the book
Growing up a dragon is not easy. Growing up a SeaWing dragon is especially difficult. Someone has been killing off the Queen’s hatchlings, and it looks like Tsunami is the next target!
Here’s the back story. The seven dragon tribes have been at war for generations, battling over a lost treasure. A secret group, the Talons of Peace, turn to an ancient prophecy to end the fighting. They steal eggs from each of the tribes, and these dragonets are raised in a hidden cave. Against their will, they are trained to end the terrible war, something none of them want to be involved in.
Tsunami and her four dragonet companions— Clay (Mudwing), Sunny (Sandwing), Glory (Rainwing), and Staflight (Nightwing)—have escaped the Talons of Peace and need a safe haven. The scared and inexperienced young dragonets make their way to the SeaWing’s hidden underwater kingdom and to Tsunami’s mother’s palace. Finally Tsunami will take her rightful place as Queen Coral’s heir.
But though she is welcomed with open arms, all does not go as planned. A younger sister confuses the future of Tsunami’s role. And with the Queen’s distrust of the other dragon factions, the dragonets soon find themselves imprisoned once again, including Tsunami!
Tsunami knows her only hope is to figure out who is killing the queen’s hatchling daughters. With the help of her friends, she manages to get close to an answer, but an attack from another tribe uncovers traitors within the Queen’s own court.
Tsunami and her friends escape, but what do they do now? And how will this affect The Dragonet Prophecy?
about the author
You might think that Tui T. Sutherland’s first name is a cute nickname, but it really is her first name. She is named after a very noisy bird found in New Zealand.
Tui was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and grew up in Asuncion, Paraguay; Miami, Florida; and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. She spent much of her high school years in New Jersey enamored with theater, working mostly backstage. That is where you find the really cute guys!
Since she’d rather sleep until noon and spend her days in her pajamas, Tui decided to become a writer. So far she has written over thirty books for children and teens.
Not all of her books are under the Tui T. Sutherland name. She has a few pseudonyms. Sometimes she uses the name T. T. Sutherland. Heather Williams and Tamara Summers are two more pennames. Under Rob Kidd, she writes spin-offs of The Pirates of the Caribbean series. Writing under the name Erin Hunter, Tui is part of a four-author team doing the Seekers and Warriors series.
Tui lives in Boston, Massachusetts, with her husband, two children, and her little white dog, Sunshine. She is very enthusiastic about puppies, tossing tennis balls for a good game of fetch, and really good television shows-like Jeopardy! She was a two-day winner on that show, taking home $46,200! That buys a lot of tennis balls!
Tui believes that everyone should be able to sleep as much as they want, read whatever they want, and wear pajamas everywhere. Think about it—wouldn’t life be much easier?
