ABOUT THE BOOK

The P is for Poop, the S is for Scoop, and Russell and Shawn call themselves Brothers because they are best of friends.

Scooping poop. Not glamorous, but it is the fastest way Russell and Shawn can earn money in order to buy themselves a puppy. They want a dog so that the bigger kids can’t pick on them anymore for being poor, or weak.

When they finally earn enough money and try to buy a dog, the boys discover an illegal dog fighting ring right in their hometown. If they are caught at the ring, what will happen to their dreams for their future?

teachingbooks-logoabout the author

By the time she was in second grade, Maribeth Boelts wanted to be an author. A shy kid, she filled her notebooks not with math or science work, but with poems and stories (she never did well in math or science, but she doesn’t care).

By the time she got to college, though, Maribeth had it in her head that she would have to get a “real job,” and that didn’t include writing for a living. She tried teaching preschool and elementary school for a while, but she soon got bored and took the risk of quitting her teaching career to try to get some of the stuff she had written published.

At first, as with many authors, she got a ton of rejection letters, but then as if by magic she sold her first book, and it has been her life ever since.

Maribeth lives in Iowa with her husband, Darwin, who is a firefighter and their son Will who is completing high school. Their son Adam and daughter Hanna have both married and are off on their own. Maribeth also has two pets—Dixie, a rescued Rottweiler, and Karmen, a cat who likes to pretend inanimate objects, like a potato, are her kittens!
