about the illustrator
Kwanchai Moriya has loved painting since he was in 2nd grade. Today, he works as a freelance illustrator, logo designer, and graphic designer.
Kwanchai went to college at the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He then went onto the Art Center College of Design, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration.
Kwanchai’s work varies from super colorful, exciting board game artwork to kooky, paper cut-out style children’s book illustrations, to science-fiction inspired acrylic paintings. His work has been featured in a number of places, including The New York Times, National Public Radio, and Nickelodeon.
Some advice that Kwanchai would give aspiring artists is to be unafraid and try new things. Stretch yourself and get out of your comfort zone, because you may find some other medium you love or a new style that works for you. It may only turn out well 10% of the time, but it’s worth it to challenge and stretch yourself as an artist.
Kwanchai currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
