about the book
One night, sibling pair Jane and Pablo notice a weird, greenish glow coming from the creepy old house up the hill. They decide to investigate, and when they arrive, they find a much larger adventure than they bargained for!
Inside the house they meet Dr. Jules, a nineteenth-century scientist trapped in the body of a rat! (He got to keep his human mustache, though.) The mustachioed rodent-scientist invites Pablo and Jane to join him in his Hot Air Time Machine, but the contraption is quickly dismantled in a sneak attack by the evil one-eyed cat, Dr. Felinibus! Dr. Felinibus snatches parts and pieces of the time machine, destroying Dr. Jules’ work and scattering the stolen parts throughout the dangerous Monster Dimension.
Jane and Pablo join Dr. Jules on a whirlwind adventure through the Monster Dimension, which is an alternate universe on Earth, where creeping, frightening creatures roam free. They will travel through Terrifying Transylvania, Lopsided London, and Horrid Hawaii, and face trolls with a taste for human flesh, sharp-toothed, living Russian dolls, and the rotting undead among other beastly monsters!
Can Dr. Jules, Pablo, and Jane find all the missing pieces, fix the Hot Air Time Machine, and return home from the Monster Dimension? Or will something that goes bump in the night get a hold of them, first?
about the author/illustrator
José Domingo was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1982. Ever since he could hold a pencil, he loved to doodle and draw.
José has worked in animation as a storyboard artist and character designer, and today is an award-winning artist, author, and illustrator. His work can be found in comic magazines and art exhibitions, and he has had work published in the United States, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
José’s artistic process works something like this: first, he does initial sketches in a notebook, based on the ideas that he and his editor have discussed. Next, he scans it and makes it the proper size to work with, or pencils the drawing onto a fresh blank page, which he then inks in. Finally, he scans that into his computer and colors it using hues that really pop off the page!
