about the book

There’s nothing more important to Isaac than baseball. His room may be a mess, but his uniform is neatly folded in a drawer, with his game day hat on his dresser.

Isaac has one goal: to pitch a perfect game. No hits. No runs. No walks. And no errors. Each time he comes close, a batter gets on base and he loses focus.

When Isaac is encouraged to help out with a Special Olympics basketball team, his whole outlook is changed. Meeting and working with Kevin, a good shot who is reluctant to work with the team, he discovers that being “perfect” is a matter of perspective.

teachingbooks-bookabout the author

Fred Bowen was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and grew up playing backyard sports with his older brothers and dad. His dad was always the quarterback in football, and Fred and his brothers would run patterns in their backyard just like in real football plays! In Little League Fred played second base; his team was the Pirates.

One of Fred’s earliest memories comes from when he was four years old in 1957, watching the World Series on black and white TV with his family.

Turning eighteen, Fred’s sports-happy childhood ended and he went to college at the University of Pennsylvania for a history major. That quickly turned into a love for sports history, and now he tries to put real sports history in his fiction books as much as he can. After college he got a degree in law from George Washington Law School. After graduating he met Peggy, a journalist. They married, and now they have two grown children who as kids were both sports nuts like him.

After being a lawyer for many years, Fred retired to write sports books for kids full time, and that is what he has been doing ever since.
