about the book
One glorious evening, sixth-grader Ben discovers that he can get his hands on a whole load of his the ball-pit balls for his town’s pizzeria—for free! What better way to use them than to prank his sixth-grade class, turning their homeroom into a ball-pit overnight!
This one prank hooks him. Ben now dreams of bigger and better pranks to come. But to do all the things he envisions, he will need a team. A secret team.
First is Frank, the brains and money man. He was the one who figured out that they could use money from the PTA in their pranks, provided they had an official club as a cover story. “The League of Pickle-Makers” ought to do it. It is a real thing, and it is just boring enough that no one else will want to join.
Next is Oliver, who pulled off a prank of his own which impressed Ben and Frank: he convinced the whole class that his real parents had come back, and that he now was leaving to go live with them in their submarine! Oliver surely is a prankster worthy of joining the League of Pickle-Makers.
Finally there is Bean, who wasn’t really going to be invited at first, since she is a girl. But when Ben learns that her parents own a costume shop, he just has to let her in. Who could pass up the chance to throw costumes into the mix of the League’s pranks?
Together, the League of Pickle-Makers will change Fountain Point Middle School forever!
about the author
Kim Baker is a writer. Kind of obvious, but she felt she needed to point that out. She was born in Wyoming and has lived in six different states, as well as a few different countries. In one country she had to check her shoes for scorpions every night.
Sometimes, when strangers walk by, Kim thinks up intricate back-stories for who they are and what they are doing in her space.
Kim also enjoys reading, baking, making little useless things, and wandering in the woods.
Kim currently lives with her husband, two kids, and a whole mess of animals in a very old house in Seattle, which creaks creepily.
