about the book

After her geologist father is fired, thirteen-year-old Margaret is horrified that he is also now falsely accused of crimes he never would commit—but that doesn’t seem to matter to the corrupt and vindictive judge Lucas Biggs. He even sentences her father to death!

Margaret has to do something. However, when everything she tries in the present-day fails, she is forced to use her family’s hidden and forbidden ability—the O’Malley’s can time travel! With the help of her best friend, Charlie, and his grandfather, Josh—that is, when Josh was a teen in 1938—Margaret goes back in time to her hometown of Victory, Arizona, in order to befriend a young Lucas Biggs, before he experienced life events that made him the angry, bitter man that will sentence her father in the future.

However, the forces of history are against Margaret, as well as the forces of human nature. Can she really change Lucas before it is too late?

about the author

Before she became a writer of prose, Marisa de los Santos was a poet, holding an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston. In fact, her first book, From the Bones Out, was a collection of her poetry.

In the spring of 2003, Marisa and her husband, David Teague, also a writer, moved to Wilmington, Delaware, and that summer was the first time Marisa thought she would write a novel, non-poetry. That book, Love Walked In, became very popular, was translated into fourteen languages and made the bestseller lists. From then on, Marisa has tried her hand at several more novels, including Saving Lucas Biggs.

Marisa and David still live in Delaware, now with their two children, Charles and Annabel. In her free time Marisa likes taking ballet classes, and she also volunteers at her kids’ school.
