about the author

Angela DiTerlizzi grew up in a house without many books. She was a reluctant reader and had difficulty with reading comprehension. When a book didn’t have pictures, she soon lost interest.

But when she was twenty, she met an aspiring children’s book illustrator, who is now her husband. Tony reintroduced her to what was missing from her childhood: children’s books! She’s been hooked on picture books ever since.

Angela lives in Amherst, Massachusetts, and Jupiter, Florida, with her husband and daughter. Her husband, Tony DiTerlizzi, is the author and illustrator of The Spiderwick Chronicles.

about the illustrator

Brendan Wenzel’s father is also a children’s book illustrator, which is probably where his desire to illustrate kid’s books began. He worked on story boards, props, animations, and various other art-related jobs before breaking into the world of children’s book illustration.

Keeping his eye on his goal, he pursued every opportunity to get his work out there, eventually putting one of his pieces in a California art show. At this show, Angela DiTerlizzi saw his piece and contacted him about illustrating her book Some Bugs.

He is also a passionate conservationist, working with many organizations to ensure the future of wild places and endangered species, particularly in Southeast Asia.

Brendan is a graduate of Pratt Institute. He lives in New York.
