about the book

The comic book series Spider-Verse was all about parallel realities which gathered several versions of Spider-man to fight the evil Inheritors, including female Gwen Stacy. This graphic novel resurrects this newest pop icon.

In this multiverse, it isn’t Peter Parker who’s wearing a spidey suit—it’s smart and charming Gwen. As Spider-woman, she can crawl walls, fling webs from her fingertips, and easily lift a car…just don’t tell her father, Police Chief Captain Stacy.

Peter Parker is dead, and both The Daily Bugle and the city’s population are sure Spider-woman did the deed. Though she is Public Enemy #1—hunted by her own dad and the NYPD led by trigger-happy Captain Frank Castle—she is still a driven vigilante going after the bad guys in honor of Peter’s memory.

These villains include Matt Murdock, an evil lawyer and killer working for the crime bosses, as well as The Thing, The Vulture, The Kingpin, and Peter Porker, a hilarious pig version of Spidey. And, of course, Felicia Hardy is still nemesis Black Cat. None of them like getting their butt kicked by a little lady in a skin-tight costume.

Along with great power comes great responsibility, and that responsibility is really weighing heavy on Gwen. She carries all the baggage that comes with duel identities. Her personal life is a mess. She is the bad-ass drummer of the Mary Janes, and band members Betty Brant, Gloria Grant, and diva leader Mary Jane Watson count on her for their one chance at success.

She can’t quit the band. She can’t quit being Spider-Woman. She can’t quit being Gwen Stacy. She certainly can’t quit life…not when she has the power to make a difference in the world. Being a super-hero is way more than facing off against bad guys; it is facing real life and for Gwen, that is acknowledging what really happened the day Peter Parker died.

about the author

When Jason Latour was a kid, he was told very strongly that there are some dead comic characters that should never be resurrected. Gwen Stacy was one of them. Over forty years ago, Gwen’s character was a student at Empire State University and Peter Parker’s girlfriend. Taken hostage by the Green Goblin on the George Washington Bridge, Peter snags her ankle with his amazing web just as she falls to a watery death. Her neck breaks and, for decades since, she’s been a legendary “professional victim.”

Jason has been reading Spider-man comics since he was ten years old. Decades later, when he accepted a job working on a comic series set in alternate universes, he kept coming back to Gwen. Jason has always been a big fan of the diversification of super-heroes. Since nobody knew much about Gwen, he got to give her a whole new personality, background, and story.

David Jason Latour was born on August 29, 1977 in Charlotte, North Carolina, into a very loving and encouraging home. He earned a bachelor’s degree from East Caroline University, where he first tried his hand at creating a comic, a humor stripped called 4 Seats Left. He went on to be both a comic writer and a comic artist. Known for his work on Wolverine, Daredevil, and Winter Soldier, he is also the co-creator and artist of the Eisner and Harvey Award winning series Southern Bastards. In 2015 he won the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award for comic book art.

He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

about the illustrator

Robbi Rodriguez expected the project to be a one-shot deal; instead, the overnight success and clamor over the new Spider-Gwen comics has been mind-blowing. His illustrations are the talk of the industry, and the design for Gwen’s spidey costume has been especially acclaimed. Even before the comic debuted, a glimpse online at the Spider-Gwen hashtag had seamstresses turning out outfits for fans.

Robbi shows a strong European influence in his work, which has a rougher more edgy feel to it. Robbi likes to experiment with his style and medium, and he incorporates graphic design elements in his panels and characters.

Robbi was born on November 20, 1982, in Waco, Texas. He was always a storyteller, and since pencils and paper were cheap and always available, his natural choice was drawing. It has always been his goal to illustrate comics.

By 18, Robbi was publishing his own zines. He got his start in the industry in 2004 with Image Comics’ Hero Camp. Now with more than a decade of experience and successes under his belt, he has worked on a bunch of great characters including his own creator-owned title Frankie, Get Your Gun. He is credited with 107 titles so far.

In 2008 Robbi was diagnosed with keratoconus, a degenerative eye disease that damages the corneas. He is now considered legally blind. Still he has not stopped doing what he loves even though his work is time-consuming and intricate. He hopes to be able to draw for five more years. He feels that Spider-Gwen will be the highlight of his career.

Robbie resides in Lomita, California.
