about the book
I know what you’re thinking. You can’t trust me. Right?
After all, I’m the BIG. BAD. WOLF. What about the three little pigs and that whole Little Red Riding Hood incident, you ask? Well, those were…misunderstandings. Look, I’ve got a bad rep, I know. But I’ve changed.
I’m starting a new club. The Good Guys Club. Let me introduce you to some of our members. Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, and Mr. Piranha. Excuse me….”Hey Snake, spit Piranha out and stop messing around…”
Anyway, I’ve got a plan for a big mission, you know, to prove to everyone we’re the real deal. Oh yeah? Well, how does freeing 200 dogs from the local animal shelter sound to you?
How? Well, you just leave that to us…
about the author/illustrator
When you mention that children’s author Aaron Blabey used to be an actor, he cringes. “I was really very lost for the first fifteen years of my professional life and worked in an array of ill-fitting careers—acting, advertising, numerous others, that all fit me like a hair shirt,” he says.
He says he was a terrible actor, but actually, he must not have been that bad. He was regularly cast alongside acting greats like Hugh Jackman and Jacki Weaver, and won an Australian Film Institute Award. When he wrote his first book on the back of a boarding pass and refined it on a length of toilet paper in a friend’s guest room in 2005, he says a lightbulb clicked on. At the time, he was on a trip to see his agent and at that meeting he retired from acting.
Aaron says he works on no less than five projects at one time—that way none of the projects become his “precious.” He works organically and flushes out ideas that come to him with little structure. He uses disposable mediums like phones, whiteboards, forearms and napkins rather than fancy notebooks because “they make feel free.”
Aaron lives near the Blue Mountains in Australia with his wife, actress Kristie Hutton, and their two sons.
