about the book

Maybe a book without pictures seems boring and serious. But the thing about books is that everything that’s written on the page has to be said by the person reading it aloud. Even if the words say…

“Blork” or “blurrf.”

“And my head is made of blueberry pizza.”

There may be no pictures inside this book, but there are preposterous songs and goofy sounds. This book is ready to be heard!

teachingbooks-bookabout the author

Benjamin Joseph Manaly Novak is better known as Ben or B.J. He grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, in a Jewish family.

No books were off limits to B.J. In fact, his ghostwriter father had a library full of books that would probably be considered inappropriate reading for a kid. In addition to his father’s research books, B.J. loved reading Amelia Bedelia, Harriet the Spy, and everything by Roald Dahl and Shel Silverstein. He was even caught reading under his covers with a flashlight.

After graduating from Harvard with a degree in English and Spanish literature, B.J. moved to Los Angeles to work as a stand-up comedian. He even started acting. When an executive producer heard B.J.’s opening joke at a comedy club, B.J. was cast as Ryan Howard on The Office. In addition to acting for the hit TV show, B.J. eventually wrote, directed, and produced for the show.

Interestingly, his friends would comment, “Are you sure about this acting thing? You’re so clearly meant to be a writer.”

And now he is an author. B.J. lives in Los Angeles, California.
