about the book

Hazel and her brother Ben, live in an American town called Fairfold, which is home to both humans and fairies—or fae folk. The magic that permeates the town isn’t all fun and games, though…local humans tread carefully around the fae, because they are not to be trusted. Though tourists find the creatures charming, the fae can be wicked tricksters, lurking in the forest and luring tourists to their death just for fun…or a quick snack.

The main attraction in Fairfold is a boy with pointy ears and horns who lies sleeping in a glass coffin, hidden in the middle of the woods. For years, Hazel and Ben have visited the coffin, swooning over the beautiful fairy-boy inside, and telling tales about courageous knights, magic, and great battles.

However, the years go by, and as Hazel grows up, she forgets the tales she used to weave with Ben. But when the glass coffin is smashed by a shadowy beast, the sleeping creature inside wakes up, and suddenly chaos reigns as monsters attack and war breaks out between the humans and fae of Fairfold.

With fairies flitting about unleashing magical mayhem, Hazel, Ben, and their changeling friend Jack will have to play the part of the brave knights from their childhood tales in the hopes of making peace between the humans and fae folk again.

about the author

As a child, Holly believed in ghosts because her mother did. She was originally afraid of the spirits, but that turned to fascination. She grew up in a decrepit New Jersey Victorian house filled with books, several of them about ghosts. Always interested in writing, she studied English lit at The College of New Jersey. She is two classes away from a Library Science masters at Rutgers University.

Holly lives in Massachusetts with her husband Theo, an artist whom she met playing Dungeons and Dragons in college. Their house is a bit on the spooky side—they even have a secret library!

Holly has three cats—the hairless demon Lily, the grumpy Persian Fizzgig, and the stray White Cat (Holly admits that she is too superstitious to change his name.
