about the book

Centuries ago, Okiku was murdered as a teenager, her body thrown into a well; and now she wanders the world as a lonely, vengeful soul. She seeks out and kills murderers and torturers of children in order to free the spirits of the murdered. She continues drifting, century after century, never finding peace and freedom for her own soul.

Then she meets Tark, a boy with evil trapped beneath the tattoos on his skin. The boy, however, is not evil, and Okiku wants to free him from the demon attached to him. She takes on his demon. But if the demon dies, so does its host.

Okiku is willing to do anything, even revisit her own murder.

about the author

Rin Chupeco, born and raised in the Philippines, lives with her husband, a dog, and two birds and maintains a constant sense of humor. She has worked as a technical writer, graphic artist, events planner, game writer, campaign worker, and activist. The main reason she writes, she says, is English author Neil Gaiman, and she’s hugged him three times.

Aside from Neil Gaiman, Rin also loves riddles, puzzles, kittens, round rabbits, superheroes, dinosaurs, ghost stories, s’mores, green tea, chocolate, and crimes shows. Her favorite bands are Train, System of a Down, Kings of Leon, Lifehouse, Calla Lily, Imagine Dragons, Slayer, and Peter Gabriel. However, Rin does not like mongo seeds, bittergourd, idiots, hot muggy days, extremely rainy seasons, early mornings, and oatmeal.
