about the book
Thomas emerges from an elevator into a clearing in the center of an enormous maze. All he remembers is his name. He doesn’t know why he is here or where he is from. He discovers he is joining 60 other boys. Every 30 days for the last two years, one boy has come down the elevator, and the boys are giving up hope of ever getting out of the maze.
Each day they send out runners to search the constantly shifting maze for a way out. Every day, the runners evade the bizarre Grievers, technological monsters that patrol the pathways of the maze. It is deadly when a boy and a Griever meet.
The next time the doors of the elevator open, they reveal an unconscious young woman. She holds an ominous note.
With his memory trickling back, Thomas thinks he remembers about the outside world. Should he tell the others or is it better if he withholds what he knows? The rules of the game are changing and the situation is becoming more dire. Does he know enough to find the end of the maze and can he get the boys…and the girl…out?
about the author
James Dashner was born and raised in Georgia with five brothers and one sister and loved every minute of it. A Mormon, James attended Brigham Young University. In school he had the overwhelming urge to write, but remained practical. He earned an accounting degree and took a job in materials management.
James currently lives in the Rocky Mountains in Utah with his wife and four children. A creative spirit stuck in an accountant’s body, he left manipulating numbers in 2009 to write full time. “Now every day seems to be too good to be true.”
James writes in a local book store or in the library, where he occasionally stops to browse the books to help spur his imagination. When he decides to write a series of books, he chooses how many books he will write and creates a very basic outline for each. Then as he writes, each book presents him with its own surprises.
One of his goals is to play the drums with Stephen King and his all-author band!
