about the book
When Adam joins a Young Adult OCD Support Group, he’s intimidated. Everyone else is older than him. And Robyn Plummer has a hypnotic voice and blue eyes that make him ache inside.
Each group member takes on a superhero persona during the sessions at their psychologist’s urging. Adam chooses Batman after Robyn chooses Robin.
Robyn was just released from a residential psychiatric program, a.k.a. the place everyone in the group will do anything to avoid.
Adam knows he needs to save Robyn or die trying. After all, he needs his sidekick, right?
about the author
Teresa Toten’s earliest and most fervent ambition was to grow up and take her place among the other mermaids. Unfortunately this dream was crushed by insensitive adults who insisted that mermaids did not exist.
In the end, Teresa went to the University of Toronto where she got both a bachelor’s and a master’s in Political Economy. She did this without taking a single English or creative writing class. Being a writer was never on her radar.
Then at some point, she started writing. Teresa reads out loud as she writes, she walks around the house, up and down the stairs trying to find the dialogue that “sounds” kind of right. Only her dog can be in the house with her. Teresa does not outline her stories before she writes them. She needs the “terror” of not knowing what will happen next in order to keep herself fully engaged with what she’s writing.
Popcorn is “nature’s most perfect food. You got your fibre, you got your vegetable, and you got your dairy. Brilliant, right?”
Teresa moved to Canada from Croatia when she was 13 days old. She currently lives in Toronto, Ontario, in Canada, with her husband and two daughters. She thinks being a writer is almost as good as being a mermaid.
