about the book
An unseen narrator declares, “What this story needs is a pig.” Just like that, a pink cartoon pig appears! What the story needs next is, clearly, a “pig in a wig.” Well, just so, Pig dons a red bouffant wig. From there, the rhyming fun really takes off, as Pig in a wig hops in a boat in a moat. Then, a frog, dog, and goat get on a log, which is in the boat. More animals are added, including a rat, elephant, skunk, a house which is there just to rhyme with a mouse, and a panda.
The boat will sink, surely! Pig cries out, “Hey! It’s getting crowded in here, don’t you think? / Off of this boat before we all sink!” Taking control of the narration, Pig sends her animal friends packing. She is the last one left in the boat, and everything seems good—at first.
Soon, though, Pig realizes that having space is not as fun as being surrounded by her friends. So, maybe what this story really, really needs, is…a bigger boat!
