about the book
I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.
Adelina survived the blood fever, when most died. The disease caused her black hair to turn silver and her left eye to become a scar. It’s rumored some survivors even received powerful gifts of magic.
All she’s ever wanted is to feel accepted and loved, but her father ignores her. When escaping an unwanted proposal, Adelina winds up a member of the Dagger Society, a group of survivors determined to use their gifts to escape Inquisition’s genocide of gifted survivors.
Adelina wants to trust the Dagger’s leader Enzo, and believe that Teren—the Inquisition’s leader—is the true enemy, but trust and belief are not things that come easily.
It doesn’t help that Adelina’s abilities are unlike anything Enzo and Teren have ever seen. How can she trust anyone if she doesn’t even trust herself?
It’s my turn to use. My turn to hurt.
about the author
Marie Lu was born in Shanghai but she grew up in Texas; then she moved to California when she went to the University of Southern California. After graduation, Marie stayed in the state for its wonderful weather.
Marie was born in 1984, which she sees as almost a prophecy considering her love for dystopian books. The idea for Legend began with her character Day. When she herself was fifteen, she invented a story involving a fifteen-year-old boy named Day, but it was only after college that the character of June came along, and the plot for Legend really took off.
Her first job after college was doing art and design for online social media games. In fact, video games are one of Marie’s great loves. The other things she loves include fighter jets, happy people, dogs, rain, Christmas lights, and—needless to say—books.
Marie lives in Pasadena, California, with her boyfriend and their Pembroke Welsh Corgis and a Chihuahua mix.
