about the book

The event: Addie Webster, the daughter of the governor of Virginia, disappears on a cold winter night. After multiple exhaustive searches, leads run cold and nothing is heard from her again. Eight years later, a mysterious girl reappears claiming to be Addie.

The players:

Darrow Fergusson. Addie’s best friend before the disappearance. Darrow’s never gotten over it; he was the last one to see her before she disappeared. He’s spent the last eight years following leads and exploring internet hoaxes and sightings of Addie. When the girl claiming to be Addie shows up, he’s thrilled. But is this girl really Addie? Some in the government believe she is a threat. They want Darrow to spy on her to get information.

Mark Webster. The former governor of Virginia, and now the president of the United States, Mark was heart-broken and devastated when his daughter vanished. He and his wife tried to move on. Now this. The blood tests reveal she’s his daughter, but her story…it’s a little too perfect.

Addie Webster. She’s home. Finally, home. And she has a new sister, Mackenzie. Addie doesn’t really blame them for trying to replace her. For her, life has been divided into two parts. The Before. And the After. This part is the After. Addie sees events for what they really are. Don’t they realize that their world could be gone in an instant? And that she is the key to ending or saving it?

about the author

Jan Gangsei grew up in a small town in Vermont and shortly thereafter was given a pair of skis (practically a law in Vermont). Instead of swooshing down the slopes, Jan took them off and watched as they slid all the way down the hill (along with any chance of a downhill skiing career). Instead, she spent her childhood dreaming of exploring, reading Nancy Drew mysteries, and forming a spy club with her best friend.

She studied political science in college and took a job as a reporter covering politics and the police beat upon graduating. A lover of thrillers, mystery, and politics, Jan used her background to forge a career as an author. She’s written many series books under other names for book packager Working Partners. Zero Day is her first young adult novel under her own name.

Jan currently lives with her family in northern Virginia, where to this day she’d rather be sitting in a lodge than slicing her way down a slope. Having Washington, DC and its political scene so close by, she expects to write more political thrillers down the road.
